KENO
MACH Ch  Bijan-Lyrix Megabucks

On August 21, 2005, Keno, owned by Robin Cohen and Robin Kletke became the first Afghan Hound conformation champion in this country to complete his masters agility championship (MACH) at the Olympic Kennel Club dog show in Enumclaw, WA.

Agility trials will be held on Wednesday October 19th. The trials will be held at a facility which is fifteen minutes from the Red Lion Hotel. Although agility is the fastest growing canine sport in the USA, it does need our support. It is the most exciting of all canine sports for spectators.

The sport made its debut as an entertainment for spectators at the Crufts Dog Show in late 1970; it has since become the most rapidly growing dog sport in England, Western Europe and North America. Spectators continue today to get caught up watching the dog and handler's enthusiasm in their athletic race against the clock.

In 1998 a demonstration of  Agility was presented to  spectators at the AHCA  National Specialty Show  held  in Tuscon, Arizona.

Pictured on the left is Ch  Konpara Alexander neg-  otiating the "A" frame.  Alexander, handled by Nicci von Broembsen, was one of the dogs included in the demonstration held in Tuscon.

Agility is a performance sport for dog and handler. It involves a race against the clock with the dog negotiating obstacles off-leash with instruction and encouragement from the handler. Although speed is important, accuracy and precision in overcoming the obstacles is paramount. Team work between dog and handler is crucial.

According to the AKC, "Agility is the ultimate game for you and your dog. It also one of the most exciting canine sports for spectators. In agility, a dog demonstrates is agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course. The course has jumps, tunnels, weave poles, and other obstacles. Agility strengthens the bond between dogs and handlers, it is fun, and it provides vigorous exercise for both! "

Please support Agility to ensure that it is an option for both exhibitors and spectators in the future.

OBEDIENCE

Although they are often not keen to take orders, Afghans do excell at obedience.
